1. What this site is

Shed & Bask is an independent publication about reptile enclosures, lighting, heat and substrate for four species. It is informational. It is free to read. There are no accounts, no subscriptions and nothing to purchase from us.

2. Accuracy, and its limits

We take accuracy seriously and we show our working: every husbandry figure is cited to a named source, every recommendation is scored against published criteria, and where sources disagree we say so rather than picking quietly.

That said, husbandry standards change, products are discontinued and reformulated, and manufacturer specifications are revised. We review pages on the schedule set out in our editorial policy, and we cannot guarantee that every figure on every page is current at the moment you read it. Verify safety-critical figures - basking temperatures, UVI targets, material service temperatures - against the linked source and the product you actually own.

If you find an error, please tell us. Corrections are the most useful message we receive.

3. Your animal is your responsibility

You decide how to house and care for your animal, and that decision and its consequences are yours. The information here is offered in good faith as a starting point for your own research and for conversations with a veterinarian - not as a guarantee of an outcome.

Electrical and heat equipment in particular carries real risk. An uncontrolled heat source can burn an animal and start a fire; we have a page about exactly that. Follow the manufacturer instructions for any equipment you install, use a thermostat, and comply with local electrical regulations.

4. Product recommendations and affiliate links

We earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this site, as set out in the affiliate disclosure. Commission does not affect what we recommend or the order we rank in.

We are not the seller. We do not manufacture, stock, ship or warrant any product mentioned here. Your purchase is a contract between you and the retailer, under their terms - including returns, warranty and delivery. Any problem with an order is a matter for the retailer.

This site quotes no prices. Price and availability are whatever the retailer shows when you arrive, and we make no representation about either.

5. Third-party links

We link out to care references, manufacturer documentation, standards bodies and retailers. Those sites are not ours and we do not control their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link is a citation, not an endorsement of everything else on that domain.

6. Intellectual property

The text, structure, criteria and comparison tables on this site are the property of MadGrey LLC. You may quote short passages with attribution and a link. You may not republish pages in whole or substantial part, or reproduce the criteria tables as your own work.

Photography on this site is licensed stock unless stated otherwise, and is not ours to sublicense. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used for identification.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other readers, attempt to interfere with its operation, or use the contact form to send automated or commercial bulk messages. The form has rate limiting, and we will block abusive traffic.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MadGrey LLC is not liable for any loss, injury, illness, death of an animal, property damage or other damages arising from your use of this site, from reliance on information published here, or from any product you purchase through a link here. The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page changes when we do, and continued use of the site after that constitutes acceptance.
