Editorial policy

Who writes this site, what we require of a source, how we correct mistakes, and what we will not publish under any circumstances.

Who writes this site

One author: Brijon M., the hands-on owner behind madgrey llc, which publishes Shed & Bask. There are no ghost co-authors, no invented editorial board and no expert panel. One byline appears on every page because one person writes them.

No credential is claimed, because none was established. There is no veterinarian, no biologist and no certification behind this site, and we will not imply otherwise. Our authority claim is the owner's hands-on keeping plus criteria we publish and apply consistently - see the methodology page.

Sourcing standard

What each kind of claim on this site requires
Claim typeStandard
Husbandry figures (enclosure minimums, temperatures, humidity, UVI, photoperiod)A named, linked, reputable source - a published care manual, a veterinary or herpetological body, or manufacturer technical documentation. Cited inline
Material safety (VOC, off-gassing, non-toxic claims)The named standard or test where one exists, plus the manufacturer technical statement. We never assert non-toxic without saying non-toxic by what measure
Product specificationsManufacturer listing or spec sheet, verified at the time of writing
PricesNever stated. Resolved at the retailer
Ratings, review counts, testimonialsNever published. We have no review data, and product ratings we did not measure are not ours to publish
Author credentialsOnly what is actually established: a name and an ownership role
First-hand experienceOnly claimed where it genuinely exists. Where picks are criteria-based desk evaluation, the page says so
Statistics and market claimsA linked source, or cut

Where sources disagree

We show the disagreement rather than resolving it silently. The clearest case on the site is bearded dragon enclosure size, where the published minimum has been raised repeatedly and the market still sells the older standard. Both figures appear, with our working position stated as a position rather than as a fact.

Naming a divergence is more trustworthy than picking one and sounding certain, and it tells you something a single number cannot: that the standard is moving.

Independence

We take no payment for placement. No brand can buy a position in a roundup, a mention, or a favorable score on this site. We accept no sponsored posts and no paid reviews.

Commission does not influence rank order. Every product link here is an Amazon Associates link, which means the commission structure is the same across the products we recommend - but the rule would stand regardless. Where a cheaper option is the better buy, it ranks higher.

We recommend against things. Every pick carries a who-should-look- elsewhere line and every roundup has a what-to-avoid section, which includes naming popular products we think are wrong.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know. Email contact@shedandbask.com or use the contact form. The most useful report names the page, quotes the claim, and links a source.

  • Factual errors are corrected on the page rather than quietly deleted, and the last-updated date moves when they are.
  • Substantive corrections are noted on the page where the change alters the advice, so a reader who acted on the old version can see what changed.
  • Typos and formatting fixes do not move the date, because they do not change what the page says.

The last-updated date on any page moves only when the page actually changes. We do not bump dates to simulate freshness - a dated title on stale content is worse than no date at all.

Update cadence

Roundups are reviewed quarterly, with every product verified as still sold. Comparisons and safety guides are reviewed twice yearly. Sizing and procedural guides are reviewed annually. The full schedule is on the methodology page.

What we never publish

  • A price we have not resolved live at the retailer - which currently means any price at all.
  • A product rating, star score or review count we did not measure.
  • A customer testimonial or quote. We have no review data for this business.
  • A credential, certification, license or award the author does not hold.
  • A claim of hands-on testing, owned units or a test lab.
  • A husbandry figure without a named, linked source.
  • A safety claim without the standard or technical statement behind it.
  • Urgency or scarcity language - no countdowns, no selling-fast, no limited-stock claims.

Research and content generation

Research tooling is used the way any writer uses tooling. Every husbandry figure on this site traces to a source that was actually read, every product named is a real, currently-sold item that was verified, and the editorial positions - including the ones that disagree with the hobby consensus - are ours. Nothing here is published on the strength of recall alone.
